Final Challenge: Google Da Vinci Code quest

Hello all... I hope everything is well. I have been away moving and doing end of semester stuff. Sorry about that.

Congratualations to all the finalists. I am one of the lucky ones too. Okay so this place is for all of you guys to discuss , post and rant about the final journey.

May the worthy prevail.

Also, don't forget the movie comes out today. I will post a review of the movie sometime later today once I watch it and also post my observations once I am done with the final quest.

Good luck solving!!

Thought you abandoned us! For anyone who's done the FC, are the sudoku regions 3x3 or are they irregular like in the daily ones? For the chess problem, are there "a lot" more pieces on the board or is it like the others? Any screenshots?

Anonymous said...

I heard people say there are no questions after you solve the puzzles. Glad they didn't make it so you had to see the movie for clues because the reviews are pretty bad. Even Ron Howard has a clunker once in a while.

HELP! My page won't load! I signed in and then it just stopped loading about an 1/8 of a way from starting. What do I do? I already tried going on another computer, but the problem is still there, too!

the sudoku are 3x3 square that is the first puzzle (or at least it was for me) puzzle 2 is the restore the painting. I have been trying to figure it our for about an hour now and still have not completed it. when I played the other restore they were so simple it was almost like you couln't mess it up. this one however is driving me nuts. I will post more when I get through this one.

oh set aside at least an hour for the final challange. I'm sure you all will be able to get through the restoration faster then I am.

good luck

well after over an hour and a half of that stupid restore puzzle I gave up. gook luck to the rest of you.

30 mins... Finished them all. My wife wishes that you all get it in 31 mins... She kinda likes Europe!

So how is it? Is it just harder 5 puzzles of the same type ( restoration, chess, etc) ??

Anonymous said...

I've seen several claims around the blogs of less than 3 minutes. They could be bluffing just to discourage the competittion and scare people off.

Anonymous said...

damn, i'm hating this restoration... never got the hang of this puzzle, :-/

Anonymous said...

When I played the final challenge, it never asked me to sign in. Did anyone else's do that? Oh, and it took me like an hour and a half to do. I got stuck on that restoration one for like an hour of that.

Anonymous said...

I HATE THAT RESTORATION PUZZLE!!! ANyone wanna help? Where the hell to start?

Anonymous said...

Does time count when you sign in? I still can NOT get it to work. I enter my info, and then it does NOT load. It gets stuck 1/8 of a way from where it started. I have dial-up, so I don't know if this is the problem.

When does the clock start ticking???

Anonymous said...

Took me a about an hour and a half. I always end up taking the most time on the soduku puzzle.

Anonymous said...

Same here, took about an hour and a half. Damn Restoration puzzle just killed me. And that hanging painting thing got me all confused for some reason. Haha and the chess thing was easier for me to just guess really fast.

Easiest by far were the sudoku and the puzzle at the end.

Anonymous said...

Took me about 45 minutes for the restoration puzzle and about 10 minutes (total) for the other four. Damn restoration logic. :-(

Anonymous said...

i heard the soduko puzzle was a 9x9... any truth to that?

Anonymous said...

OK, for the people who took 1.5 hours or more, and who know that they're out, could you do us who have not begun a favor?
Tell us what you had to do...
was the soduku a 9x9 or smaller? were the sections in it 3x3 or were they irregular (as the others were)
Restoration... any help? where'd you begin?
Chess... what were the questions
was the jigsaw puzzle included? where was the picture of
ANY other info would be greatly appreciated :)

When I finish, I'll come back and help "fill in the blanks"...

Thanks,

Man, some of you need to get out more ;) The answers to all of your questions are on other blogs. Not here. I see 2 forces at work... 1, nobody wants to give anything away that might help someone else beat them, and 2, interest has really fallen off outside of the 10,000 finalists. Especially among those who run the blog sites.

Anonymous said...

But THIS blogger is a finalist :)

(WHat other sites have answers to my Q's? I can't find any (yet))

Anonymous said...

not true about thouse outside the 10000. I would love to just try by hand at the puzzle. am interested in your guy insight. Some how there is a odd connect going on here, so please post. Let us hear how the quest goes.
t
ps why?
when the riddle remains we engage.

Final challenge answers here:

The final challenge puzzle is BS. Everyone got the same puzzles, so naturally people have posted answers. I finished the thing in 15 minutes and have read of people finishing in less than 5 minutes. Google f'd this contest all up, so I'm spreading the answers in effort to make the contest so unfair that they'll have to do something about it.

ANSWERS HERE!!:

Google was only the messenger. Sony was behind the message. Google screwed up a few things with their servers on day 24, but Sony is calling the shots.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the answers. However, I still SUCKED AT RESTORATION!!! I finished in 20 minutes. Oh well, still got the cryptex right!!! If anyone from the list wins. Let us know and enjoy Europe - if you can afford the Taxes!!! Cheers!

Anonymous said...

too bad there's no way for anyone to give hints/help with the restoration challenge... sigh

Anonymous said...

well it took me 1hr 30mins... unfortuantly I am honest unlike some of you on here that have to go and cheat and steal from the rightful winner of the contest -- not me :( -- I completed them all and I am very please with myself in completing the puzzle without lowering myself to cheating. To everyone who did it themselves... hey my hat off to all of you... but those that cheated.... well you can guess what I think about you but you probably would have to cheat at that too.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!!!!!!! some a-hole is SELLING the answers to the final challenge on EBAY!!!! some people are soooo ridiculous, i cannot believe they are doing this, how desperate for money are you, might as well sell your liver while your at it! this is so irritating that most of us worked really hard to finish and some idiot is selling the answers to the highest bidder..NOT FAIR!!

It kills me to see people rant about "cheating". It's called research.

Anonymous said...

Im more upset with the idiots that would post the answers.

Anonymous said...

I completed the challenge in 1 hour and 9 minutes. It was a lot of fun and I'm happy I had the opportunity to do it.

Anonymous said...

It isn't research. There is a difference between searching the answers out by oneself, and using someone else's work. Sounds like plagiarism to me. It kills me to hear finalists complaining about people posting answers when you know at least some have sought out the answers via blogs and such. Just b/c someone posted answers and gave people the means to cheat doesn't make it right. I, for one enjoyed doing the puzzles myself, easy as they were they were still a lot of fun.

Anonymous said...

sorry, but buying the answers on ebay is not research! ITS FLAT OUT CHEATING!!! you cannot research a puzzle, if there were questions you could call it research, even then you should not be able to BUY the answers! and if you still think that is not cheating...your an idiot too!

This world, and this blog for that matter, is just full of crybaby whiners. There is nothing wrong with using the resources available. My wife worked with me on the puzzles to, it's called teamwork, but heck, I guess for some people that's "not fair". Would I have bought the answers on ebay....heck no....they are available for free on several different blogs, and we knew them before we did the puzzle (atleast the suduko, chess, curator part). We still had to do the restoration (which everyone seems to agree is the hardest part), and the moving puzzle. Do we think we won, NO, Do we frankly care, NOT REALLY. If we win, we will likely either sell the trips, or perhaps give them away...but we don't see that happening, and the last thing we are doing is whining about it. Get a life people, and stop whining, whiners never win. They just annoy normal people!

Anonymous said...

Quest participant.....you, my friend, are an idiot.

Anonymous said...

Took me about 10 minutes, I fear it was not fast enough for the cheaters though..... I love those Sudokus, Just assigned numbers to them and it all comes to gether.

I was cruising through the puzzles, since they weren't that difficult. Got lucky with the restoration, getting it in one shot. Then I got to the movie puzzle. As I'm working on it, blam, the screen goes to GMail. I forgot to open the link from the finalist mail in a new tab/window. But I'm not sure why a page I navigated AWAY from is allowed to refresh itself onto the current page. Well, I decide to try again. I have to re-do everything. Not hard since I've seen it once. Get to the movie puzzle, and this time, it's overlaid with the "You have successfully finished all puzzles" message. Not sure what to do, so I kept working the puzzle, but managed to click on a hyperlink in that message which took me to a showtimes lookup page. I gave up, not knowing if the system thinks I finished or not. Thanks to Google's stupid GMail service, I'll never be quite sure.

I finished...lost track of how long it took. the restoration puzzle killed me. I never quite got the hang of those.

Anonymous said...

finished.. about 10 min only cause my comp took a crap on me! workin at 28 Mbps... yuck

Anonymous said...

19 minutes

Anonymous said...

Gave up with the restoration one...I knew I would not have the shortest time anyways.

Kevin said...

It took me about 10 minutes.

Anonymous said...

Well I finished in about six minutes, but I'm sure people were able to 'type' in the answers faster than me

Anonymous said...

damn restoration challenge. sucks because there's no real strategy you can adhere to--

Anonymous said...

dang! I cheated, lol, and still took me 30 mins. Wow. I only cheated on teh suduku puzzle though

Anonymous said...

when do they announce the winner? does anyone know? I cheated a little so my time was 4min 53sec according to my girlfriend's watch. I hope it's good enough. I realllllllly want those trips.
