A Finalist confirmation from Google and Sony?

As many of you reported in the previous posts comments, I too have received two emails from Sony(davincicodequest@sonypictures.com) and from (spotlight@news.sonypictures.com).

The content of both the emails is exactly identical other than the source of the email and the subject message. I belive that everyone who got to finish the final quest and fill out the registration form got this email and Google/Sony will begin to contact the finalists starting coming Monday (05/15/06). So everyone else outside the first 10000 but still got to complete the registration form will receive a surprise gift as a consolation prize.

Following is the content of the email(s)

" Thank you for participating in "The Da Vinci Code" Quest on Google.

This email is to confirm that you have completed all 24 puzzles within the quest and successfully registered for a chance to participate in the final challenge. Well done!

We will be contacting the 10,000 finalists on Monday 5/15 via email regarding their cryptex shipment. Within that email the 10,000 finalists will also receive instructions on how to participate in the final challenge.

All remaining players who finished the quest will also receive a surprise message via email.

Thank you all for participating in "The Da Vinci Code" Quest on Google and making it such a success. We hope you enjoyed playing.

I had given up when I saw the mesage about the quest being over at 1:21. But later I went back to the quest and got the second form - this was about 10 at night. So I filled it in and found I was in the first 10,000. The timestamp on the first input is the one that counted. I wonder how many others gave up like me. Got my two confirmaiton letters last night.

Anonymous said...

I had given up too, but i filled it out anyways on the google homepage. Got my emails too yesterday. I hope i am in the 10000

Anonymous said...

Wonder if the "consolation prize" will be a movie ticket or discount for a movie ticket. I'd take that.

Erin said...

Got my emails - waiting on my email Monday or my Consolation prize. I will be happy with either, I really don't care what happens. It was fun.

Anonymous said...

Yay i didn't receive any email :D..

Anonymous said...

i too got the mail. Does it mean that I'm in the first 10,000 ? Or does it just mean that I'll be intimated on 15th whether I'm also a finalist ?

Anonymous said...

consalation prize? There is no mention of that. Where in the world did you guys get that idea from? All it says is there will be a surprise message in a email. That is not a consolation prize.

Anonymous said...

I REPEAT THE EMAIL MEANS NOTHING.. NOTHING... If the email confirms your a finalists it would not have told you that there is a consolation prize for those who didn't get into the 10,000. Everyone will have to wait till monday to find out because everyone who completed the registration form got the email

Anonymous said...

i completed the quest about 20 minutes after it opened and never got these emails... am i the only one?

Anonymous said...

Yes.

Anonymous said...

^^^^^^
No he is not.
I did not get the two emails either, but I suspect that the email went into my spam. Since I deleted my spam and trash can around the time most people recieved their emails, I think I may have accidently deleted the email. The message probably went into your spam section like me, if you forgot to add their email address to your contact list...

Anonymous said...

I too completed the thing 5 minutes after it was posted and did not get any e-mail. Google probably messed up

Anonymous said...

I completed at 1:08 and got both forms filled out. Didn't receive a confirmation email.

Anonymous said...

The "surprise message" that Google will send out is that if you're not in the top 10,000, you can still get a cryptex.

But you have to pay for it.

But it's discounted.

The original price (I believe) is roundabouts $79.95, but if you completed the quest and didn't make the top 10K you get a 40% discount.

I forget where I read this, but it was on some entertainment site linked to by some other site.

Best of luck to everyone who entered! (Personally, I'd like a cryptex for free. I got these two emails, but I submitted the registration form at about 1:35 eastern time because of other commitments, so I doubt I'm in the top 10,000 ... I'm being kept on my toes, though!!!

Anonymous said...

crpytex is only worth 30 bucks as thats approximate which means u can get it at walmart for 25$.

Anonymous said...

I have not received an e-mail from either davincicodequest@sonypictures.com or spotlight@news.sonypictures.com,

Anonymous said...

If google did not send you the e-mail does that make you automatically out of the 10,000? many people have finished all 24 challenges (like me) on time and stuff, but we didn't recieve any e-mail. Does anyone know if google messed up, or if we did something wrong?

And if google did mess up, is there anything we can do to fix the problem, cuz come on, we worked as hard as those who got the e-mail and we should be given a fair chance...

Anonymous said...

Maybe it went to your junk mail it did say make sure you make the their email one of your contacts it's your lost if you didn't read everything that's part of the game is to make sure you do it all right or maybe your wrote your email wrong and was sent to the wrong accoun.

Julie P. (babyofmine) said...

I don't remember filling out a form, but I did the games usually in the wee hours of the morning...but I did receive the emails. I *think* I finished the last one on time. LOL Anyway, good game and I would only be slightly disappointed if I don't win anything.

Anonymous said...

As for "google messing up" person : Doubtful, since tomorrow will be the mass email to the 10K winners. Obviously you can try, but I doubt seriously you can do much.

I do believe it is a US regulation by law that they do have to release the name of the winners..but I could be wrong in that aspect. Sadly though, that doesn't mean they have to release the times of the last puzzle finish times.

Anonymous said...

You people are tripping, there is no other prizes! Check the offical rules. Second thru 10,001st place only get the criptex. After that thanks for playing!
Furthermore everyone gets the two emails! If you didn't, it's amazing you got this far cause you proabably screwed up the form part of the final challenge. No one knows who is in the top 10,000 until tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

It would be, "there are no other prizes.!"

Anonymous said...

Hey, anybody got email from Google today?

Anonymous said...

I got a phone call from my wife she asked me if I had ordered something I said No. She said you have a package here from Sky Castle Entertainment. When She opened it it was a Cryptex. I asked her if she was certain that it was cryptex and she said yes its one of those puzzle boxes. I haven't ordered one my self and I did finish rather quickly. SO I can only assume its one of the Google Quests Cryptex prizes. I certainly didn't expect to receive it in the mail today. She did say it was nice and heavy and seemed very well made.

Woot Ill try and Get pictures tonight when I get home.

Anonymous said...

very cool. that was way fast.
hope mine shows in the mail bag

Anonymous said...

Great, WarPirate! You are the first I know who got the prize! Good luck playing the final puzzles!

Anonymous said...

Has anyone gotten the emails yet? That's amazing that someone got the Cryptex before the email. What part of the US are you in warpirate?

Anonymous said...

warpirate when did you submit the final puzzle? This way we can get an idea of latest time (so far) one had to submit to be a finalist.

Anonymous said...

I live in Iowa and I finished the puzzle completion form with in 3-4 mins of Puzzle release

Anonymous said...

I wish I had a picture. My Wife says its really nice. I may have to take off from work early just so I can go check it out.

Anonymous said...

Here's a picture someone posted of the cryptex box:

So looks like people are getting the cryptex package before an email.

Per my wife, I too had a Cryptex delivered today...can't wait to get home. Oh and maybe this will help some decide if they're in the top 10,000 or not...I didn't get the last puzzle completed or registration submitted until about 7:30 EST that night.

Anonymous said...

^^ If that is true... then EACH puzzle must have been measured in time completed. And it had little to do with the puzzle completion on the last day.

And that would mean i'm sunk! Some puzzles I worked over the length of a day.. just working on one piece, go away for an hour, work a little more... etc

Oh well!

Anonymous said...

Just received a call from my wife as well and the Crypex arrived today. I finished around 1:12 EST.

Anonymous said...

Ok I just checked my mail, NOTHING and I finished it and registered within 1 1/2 hours of puzzle coming out(not bragging just a time line) and I have no email either, I did get an eamil advertisment from sony advertising sony products but thats all?
Any Idea when emails were to be sent out I kinda figured at 1:00 PM EST but it was not stated just the date 5/15, not a member here but use the tag slo_hand2

Anonymous said...

HAS ANYONE GOT THE EMAIL???

Anonymous said...

I am also wondering if email has been sent out.
t

Anonymous said...

Baz you finished the final puzzle in 12 min?
WOW!!!

Anonymous said...

Dont think the email has gone out.

Anonymous said...

Anon from 11:05 here...while a Cryptex is apparently sitting at home waiting for me, I still have not received an email or any other indication I qualified for anything.

Anonymous said...

aww i want a cryptex. i dont care really care much about the grand prizes...i just want that cryptex. lol

Anonymous said...

I wish they would post the emails this is driving me NUTS lol, I would feel bettter if I had got the Cryptex in the mail today but nope, this is slo_hand2 again

Anonymous said...

I'm begining to wonder if more than 10,000 will receive a cryptex and the email will inform you if you are indeed eligible for the 'Final Challenge'

Anonymous said...

baz did you really finish in 12 min bud?

Anonymous said...

According to a posting on a different Blog, the note inside the cryptex states the following:

"Congratulations, you have proven worthy of the Da Vinci Code Quest on Google, wisit www.google.com/davincicode to see if your journey continues"

Hmmm, "TO SEE IF YOUR JOURNEY CONTINUES"

Can anyone on this thread verify that statement?

Anonymous said...

No email No parcel yet....
I completed 1:04

Anonymous said...

Never mind with the verification.....I just saw a photo of the scroll. That's what it says.

Anonymous said...

i did each puzzle about 5-15 mins but i didn't reiceve anything yet

Anonymous said...

I finished in about 10 min d/t the spyware errors. My puzzle time on average (for all 24) was about 3 minutes. Mail truck came and went. No mail, no email.

Anonymous said...

Now I'm looking forward to going home from work to see if I got a parcel. I have no spouse at home to tell me if I have a big package. I mean a big package from Google waiting for me at home.

Anonymous said...

awwwww, I'm sure someone out there thinks you have a big package

Anonymous said...

good one lol

after reading all these comments about 10 min or less I feel like an dumbass damn!!

Anonymous said...

Has anyone received their e-mail???

Anonymous said...

I got mine in the mail a few mins ago. I finished the final puzzel at 1:05 est

Anonymous said...

I call Bullshit!! no one is suppose to get the Cryptex till the 18th. I haven't seen anybody posting their email. I haven't recieved any email, for or against me.

Anonymous said...

So does anyone know if the puzzle is definitely based on how fast you finished each puzzle, or how fast you submitted just the last one?

This is killing me - no email, no package ... =(

Anonymous said...

Wankers!!

Anonymous said...

I haven't gotten an email yet but have the cryptex in my hands. I finished at 1:05 est. It comes via usps

Anonymous said...

Here is all the proof you need:

Anonymous said...

Finished at 1:05 EST, no emails, no package, but I live in Manhattan so I probably have the slowest mail. Anyone else in NYC get/not get a cryptex?

Anonymous said...

those who got their cryptex, are you all from the east coast? anyone from the west coast got theirs yet?

Anonymous said...

Anyone in Arizona got yours?

Anonymous said...

Anyone in Arizona got yours?

Anonymous said...

Hmmm 12:49 has the real thing and UPS just went past my door damn did yours come via UPS 12;49 anno? Have you been to the site to see if your quest continues?

Anonymous said...

Based on the people selling them on Ebay, they have arrived in New jersey, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Montana, New York, and someone said they got one in Iowa. Seems like everywhere but the west coast.

Anonymous said...

NYC here and slow mail, no cryptex, but both forms were filled out at 1:07 so I hope I am part of the 10k

Anonymous said...

and the south is without as well

Anonymous said...

it's us postal service. Does anyone know how to change the password on teh cryptex

Anonymous said...

I'm still unsure if its UPS or USPS. Some people say UPS and definitely NOT regular mail, others say regular mail and definitely NOT UPS. So ... um ... I guess we'll wait and see.

To the person who got their cryptex although they finished @ 7:30 PM -- I sure hope some of your luck rubs off on me!!!! Finished @ ~1:30 PM EST.

Anonymous said...

I can't figure out how the guy that finished at 7;30 PM could have won when so many ppl have times of less then 10 min, I thought i did good in registering witin 1 1/2 hours and I have got nothing no email no package nothing:(

Anonymous said...

you can by the cryptex at noble collection if you want it. They sell them and that's where the this one came from

Anonymous said...

Its possible that different regions used different carriers.

Anonymous said...

1 1/2 is a long time. I finished at 1:05 it was the fastest I ever finished one of these puzzels I thought before the final quest i would need to finish before 1:15 est. to even have a chance. But you can buy the cryptex at noble collection

Anonymous said...

they might have spread the wealth considering they were sending 10,000 at one shot. If that's in fact what they did.

Anonymous said...

yea i gather 1 1/2 was a long time but then how did someone who finished 6 hours later already get his?

Anonymous said...

Well that is nuts..you would think you get an email on the 15th...plus if a person who completes the last puzzle at 7:30 p.m ET gets a Cryptex and others who completed it much sooner..then there is some DEFINITE issues with Google and company.

Since they aren't following their own rule of the FIRST 10K, not a random 10K.

Anonymous said...

Most people who have gotten the Cryptex so far have been around 1:10 or sooner the guy who said he got it at 7:30 might be lying. IF you really want one of the Cryptex go the noble collection

Anonymous said...

At this point all we can do is wait and if infact we don't get an email or a cryptex console ourselves in the fact that it was fun!
What I don't understand is I thought everyone was promised an email if they won great if not if was sappose to be a fun email?

Anonymous said...

it's not the first 10,000 to finish the last puzzle, but the first 10,000 to have the shortest cumulative time to finish all of the puzzles.

Anonymous said...

It says the 15th the day isn't over yet. The last emails were sent out at night.

Anonymous said...

The rules do not say anything about total completiuon time for all puzzles. Not even as a tie breaker. The 10,000 are based first on completion time of the last puzzle and then on submission of form in case of tie.

I'm in New Hampshire. Mail is slow, UPS comes at 8:00pm. So I guess I'll just have to find out tonight if I am one of 10,000 (@1:05 final puzzle completion).

Anonymous said...

It is possible we misunderstood the rules and thought the exact time of completion mattered whereas it is really the total duration for each puzzle. I finished most within 5 minutes but had a couple that I startedand then put off finishing for a few hours.

Anonymous said...

Google montitored the Blog and anyone using help from others were downgraded on the list.

Anonymous said...

I hope my cryptex isn't in the mail, its thundering and lightening out :(

Anonymous said...

Don't count yourself out yet Rob Blake. If they're sent by regular USPS parcel post, it wouldn't be suprising if there were a couple days difference between when the first people to receive them get theirs and when the last people to receive them get theirs!

Anonymous said...

"Just like I posted a few days ago..seems like it is random and not the FIRST 10K, per the rules."

It could just be that USPS is just bad at making sure everyone got the package on the same day. The official emails havent even gone out so I dont see why everyone is getting into a pissy fit over not getting one.

Anonymous said...

I don't know where this cumulative puzzle time myth comes from, but it is clearly not true. I encourage anyone who thinks so to provide some kind of evidence/explanation.

Anonymous said...

As for questions about the west coast... I am in CA and just recieved my cryptex. No email though... inside it said :
Congradulations,
you have proven worthy of the Da Vinci Code Quest on Google, visit
www.google.com/DaVinciCode
to see if your journey contines.
When I went to that site it said:

If you're one of our finalists, congratulations! In order to reach the end of the Quest and be rewarded with untold riches you must quickly and correctly complete the Final Challenge. However, you're too early as the Final Challenge has not begun yet.

The one to complete the Final Challenge in the least amount of time from start to finish will be the chosen one. On May 19th, the Final Challenge, which is a time trial, will be made available to you for 48 hours. Please note that this is not a race and that you don't have to start as soon as the Final Challenge is released. You can begin whenever you like during the 48 hours, but prepare well, for once you start there is no turning back. The player who completes all five tasks with the least cumulative time, not the first to complete, will be the chosen winner.

I am a little hung up on the "IF" at the beginning of the statement... :-(

Good luck to all!

Anonymous said...

well it makes more sense to consider the shortest cumulative time rather than the fastest time to finish the last puzzle in that those ppl who couldnt access the puzzle at the time it came out (bcos some of us are students like myself) would still have a chance to be one of the 10,000.

I just did the quest for fun. I didn't even know about the prizes and the final quest until the end. I finished most of them in 5 - 7 minutes. I wish they would send out the emails already! I won't get home until after 9:00, and if didn't fit in my mailbox it's probably a dog toy by now. I can't wait to see if I got one!

Finished at 1:05 EDT. Cryptex in the mail up in New Hampshire. Pretty cheap ... the key only has teeth at the last two tumblers.

Anonymous said...

Got mine, in Boston.

Anonymous said...

I'm not giving up yet. The rules said the cryptex is supposed to arrive by May 18. I'll hold out til then; afterall I did give up on the Eurostar quest.

Anonymous said...

I got mine and I live in California. Also it came in a later batch of mail than normal. If people don't get it today I could not be that worried because it could be a location thing. Mine was postmarked May 13 from Santa Monica, and I live close to Santa Monica so it would get to me faster than someone further away.

Anonymous said...

I wonder if everyone who finished the quest got a one. It took me 15 minutes or so for the last quest and I got one. Besides the note inside says go to www.Google.com/DavinciCode to "see if your journey continues. That makes me think it may not continue despite getting the prize.
As far as getting help, google put this quest on so that you would use google to do the searches. They want you to know google in and out so you use it over Yahoo or whatever else. There should be no penalty for getting help.
My unlock code is SSSIL
what about yours?

Anonymous said...

It appears only the last 2 were used therefore of SSSIL, only IL needed to be correct. How cheap was that?

Anonymous said...

OK, if you read the rules AT ALL, you will see the prizes are 1 GRAND PRIZE, and 10,000 cryptex prizes, hello??? that means that NOT EVERYONE WHO PLAYED GETS ONE, ONLY THE 10,000 FINALISTS.
FYI to guy above...your code is same as everyone elses(read the bottom of your box!) "Cryptex Code:GRAIL" only need last two letters to open it..so your code is also GRAIL not SSSIL
how did you people make it this far?????????????

Anonymous said...

Well Im trying to not be disapointed at not getting one but OH WELL life goes on

Anonymous said...

www.Google.com/DavinciCode to "see if your journey continues. That makes me think it may not continue despite getting the prize.

Here is something else for all of you asking these kind of questions to consider...don't you think that anyone (finalist or NOT) could get to a simple site such as www.google.com/davincicode? So it is more likely that they wrote the "IF" in there so that everyone in the world wouldn't think that they were "IN". If you receive a cryptex and an email telling you that you are a finalist....you are in..thats it nothing more (or less) to it.
I hope all of you asking these dumb questions aren't ruining your crptex by drooling on it.

Anonymous said...

I received my cryptex in Dallas today in US mail. I can't read the postmark to give any info on it. I finished the last puzzle 4 or 5 minutes after its posting

Anonymous said...

Haha, you're right... it does say that. That's why I have my gf. Ladies always know how to read the directions.

btw, the SSSIL came from looking down the line and arranging the letters in a way that creates a clear channel all the way down. "GRA" do not have that trough.

Anonymous said...

i got one! i was definitely surprised. my code was GRAIL.

This is the information age. Anyone can go to the sight and try to log in however only the "winners" will be allowed to continue with their login.

I know you're jealous you didn't get one but don't take it out on us, the good guys.

I received my cryptex in Austin, TX today. I finished the final puzzle in about 4 minutes. Good luck, all!

Anonymous said...

Looking for clues, do you think Brant Myers is one? maybe a painting of Davinci moved around?

Anonymous said...

Wife just called and said mine arrived. I'm in Tempe, AZ.

Anonymous said...

ANOTHER FYI...I did recieve a cryptex in the mail this afternoon, therefore am not jealous of anyone. especially not some of you blubbering morons on here asking all these idiotic questions. by no means am i bashing this site (not SIGHT..idiot)or the majority of the people posting on here, just the select few of you who are asking such stupid questions. if you took 5 seconds to THINK about what you are saying maybe you wouldn't sound so stupid. then again i'm glad to see that there are alot of less than adequate competitors in this, gonna make it alot easier for the rest of us that have half a brain to win! :)

Anonymous said...

I'm the anon who finished around 7:30PM the last day of the puzzle and got a Cryptex. For those who haven't received theirs yet...I'd say be patient. Mine arrive via US Postal Mail, and everyone who's ever mailed anything should know that mail delivery times can vary...hell, I've sent mail 'Express' and had it take a few days to reach it's destination (supposedly Express is 1 day). I'm sure most everyone will receive theirs in the next couple days.

Regarding how the first phase was judged, who knows? Since I'm in the next phase and didn't completed the quest until that night, I think it means one of three things:

1. It's a random drawing to see who's one of the lucky 10,000. <- Unlikely
2. The total time to complete the last puzzle OR cumulitive time to complete all the puzzles was used to pick the lucky 10,000. <-Possible
3. Maybe 10,000 completions weren't reached until later in the day. <-Possible

I followed the puzzles closely and completed them everyday, but not usually until around 7-8 every night...I didn't even know there was any kind of time limit on the quest completion until I actually finished the last puzzle. Maybe I wasn't alone in that ignorance...who knows?

I think these are consolation prizes being sent out, they are too small. The company that created them has a bigger one available which is probably the one the top 10,000 winners will receive.

Anonymous said...

These are the prizes they would never spend 120 for each of the 10000 people. that would be so expensivemore than the grand prize.

Anonymous said...

did any one get one in ohio ?

Anonymous said...

"These are the prizes they would never spend 120 for each of the 10000 people. that would be so expensivemore than the grand prize."

For starters, I'm guessing that company is paying between 10 and 30 dollars each to manufacture them and have a huge markup.

Beyond that, When you buy 10,000 of just about anything, You can get some really good discounts, Near cost pricing.

Anonymous said...

I'm in Columbus, Ohio and I got one.

Anonymous said...

"Final Phase. Finalists will be mailed via U.S. postal service, for scheduled delivery by May 18, 2006, a limited edition Cryptex replica and a screenshot of 4 codes (the "Finalist Prize"). One of the included codes will open the Cryptex. Inside will be a scroll with instructions on how to access the Final Puzzle Challenge online."

This was taken directly from the official rules of the contest. I received a cryptex, but only used the code on the box to open it. I didn't receive "a screenshot of 4 codes". Maybe only the finalists received a cryptex with the 4 codes and the rest of us got a consolation prize. Anyone get the "screenshot of 4 codes"?????

Anonymous said...

Anyone get the "screenshot of 4 codes"?????

I'm guessing someone screwed the pooch on that one.

QUESTION
FOR THOSE WHO RECEIVED A CRYPTEX:

When you login to your Google account online, what does the message say in the DaVinci Quest box? (where the puzzles used to be)

Anonymous said...

"Thank you for participating in The Da Vinci Code Quest on Google. We hope you had fun."
"If you enjoyed the Quest, then you won't want to miss The Da Vinci Code movie, in theaters on May 19."

Anonymous said...

Anybody else notice that the password for the Cryptex isn't GRAIL at all? I know only the last two letter matter, but look at the notches inside on the other wheels. When I line up my notches I get BADIL. Weird...

Anonymous said...

The part that comes out only has the 2 notches in it, making only the last 2 letters all that matters. In the mini cryptex for sale on noblecollection.com (the one I think we got) it has all four notches in the removable part. Oh and another thing it also says you can change the code to what ever...has anyone figured out how to do that?

Anonymous said...

I changed the password on my cryptex, the right end cap screws off, then the next piece comes off. on the side of that there are 2 tiny screws, take them out then you can slide off the letters..set them to what you want the last letters to be then put it all back together same way u took it apart

Ok, for those of you who received the cryptex, can you tell us what state you are in?

Jeez.

Anonymous said...

i live near chicago..got mine early this afternoon with regular mail. came in a smallish white box, rectangle shape.

Anonymous said...

hrmm... from the posts, it looks like the only people getting these finished before 1:10, except the random 7:30pm, which could be an anomoly or even a hoax. i finished at 1:20 and didn't even get the original spams they sent to everyone else.

Anonymous said...

does anyone else think that basing the winner on how fast you can log in and solve one puzzle is completely jank? especially after a month long quest?

Portland OR.

Got my Cryptex. Just remember, Give it a few days.

what is the latest someone finished the last code who received a cryptex? Did anyone from New York get their Crytex yet?

Got the email 15-mins ago. Now wait begins for the 19th. The DVC online game looks cool

Anonymous said...

I received my finalist email, finished at 12:08

Anonymous said...

I'm from NY. Just got my cryptex today and the finalist email notification 15 minutes ago.

I think I finished around 1:07 or so.

Anonymous said...

What did Ian say? I'm deaf and couldn't understand him.

Anonymous said...

Just got the Congrats email now. The cryptex arrived (Long Island, NY) this afternoon. So much for all the lame posts from people who obviously did not read the rules. The cryptexes are obviously NOT "consolation prizes". LOL. The 7:30 post is a hoax.

Anonymous said...

i completed mine around 10:20am pacific and i was not a finalists i got the email :(

Anonymous said...

it wasnt the time required to do the puzzle it is WHEN you finished. I guess you are suppose to finish before 1:10pm eastern time in order to become a finalist.

Anonymous said...

I'm guessing it was a combination of many things; i.e. you completed all of the puzzles in a total timeframe. I'm fairly sureI completed all of them within 20 minutes each (without help), and I got a confirmation stating I was a finalist. Oh, and I completed the last one at 1:12.

I'm just impressed Google got everybody so worked up about this contest. Hope the final test is a brain-bender.

Anonymous said...

I just got my FINALIST EMAIL!!!! No Cryptex yet.....

Anonymous said...

I got the NOT a finalist e-mail. I finished the last puzzle in under 3 mins as well. I'll redeem the consolation prize; it looks like a fun computer game for when I'm really bored.

Anonymous said...

To the deaf person, Ian McKellen says:

"Hello this is Ian McKellen. Congratulations on completing the Da Vinci Code Quest on Google, you're one of the finalists and can now compete in the final challenge, but first there's the sneak peak of the movie, and I look forward to seeing you in the movies on May the 19th. Well done."

Wait... I'm getting a vision.... Swami says your investigation into sweepstakes fraud will get you exactly nowhere. You don't have any logs, admit it. You don't know the "proper people" either. Big talk from your parents' basement.

Anonymous said...

I feel really sad. I didnt get any of the emails and i submitted everything by 10:09 (PST). I didn't even get the "You're not a finalist" email either...
:(

Anonymous said...

ok i think i know what the deal is. i did the quest w/ my email acct, fininshed the final quest as soon as it came out (finished around 1:05), then hours later at night started a new quest under another email just for fun, since i knew the answers, i submited that final in @ 1 minute. today i recieved a cryptex and finalist email for my original quest (the one completed @ 1:05pm) and got no cryptex and a NOT a finalist email for the one that i did later that night (completed in a much faster time on the puzzles including the final) so all of you questioning that something fishy went on..i think this shows that the finalists were chosen based on what time they submited final not how long it took them to do. which i think is fair because if you really wanted to win you would've been on your computer ready to go at 12:45 so you could be among the first ones in.

Jack said...

I am not a finalist.

I started the last quest at 1:00pm eastern, and finished at 1:06pm eastern. I submitted my google id name immediately after 1:06pm eastern.

Oh well.

Anonymous said...

People, it does not matter how long it took you to finish the last puzzle, or any puzzle for that matter. All that mattered was at what TIME did you finish the last puzzle. It could take you 10 seconds to finish it, but if you finished it on Tuesday then you're definetly out. Reading this series of posts makes me wonder what type of competition I'll have on the final challenge come Friday afternoon.

Anonymous said...

Folks everyone needs to understand that it isn't about how much time it took to finish the puzzles, its about when you finished the last two forms!!! It doesn't matter if it took you 2 seconds to finish the last puzzle if you did it 7 hours after the puzzle went public!!!! What matters is if you were one of the first 10,000 to complete it AND both forms!!! I recieved my finalist email tonight and I know that it was because I completed the last puzzle and both forms in by 1:06pm. Thats 6 minutes after it went public!

Anonymous said...

The conformation email leads to a sneak peak of the movie. In the names of the people that spoke, look for highlighted letters. If you take all the letters and rearrange them, it says find the vitruvian man...

Anonymous said...

has anyone from australia got an emails regarding anything involved with this google quest?

Anonymous said...

Got my cryptex today and my FINALIST email! wohoo! I finished my the last puzzle at 1:12.. Good luck all!

Anonymous said...

So I got a cryptex in the mail yesterday and then received the email telling me I'm NOT a finalist. Does that mean there's some finalist out there who won't receive a cryptex? Cool novelty, but I'm guessing it wasn't supposed to come to me.

Anonymous said...

What's the relevance of the code "Find the Vitruvian Man" from the video? Also, anyone know how to unlock the DaVinci Code online game? I heard it took some kind of code that was supposed to be emailed to non-finalists.

Anonymous said...

I didn't read through all of the fine print for this contest but if it anything like others I've seen there are disclaimers such as: Google is not responsible for any errors cause by the selection algorithm, and, Google is the final authority for determining winners regardless of any circumstances, etc. Attempts to bring action against Google will be, and yes you can quote me on it, futile. If you got cheated, hey I honestly feel bad for you, but please - quit your whining as nobody likes a whiner and your bleeding heart will get you nowhere. There are other contests out there.

I finished the last puzzle and submitted my forms by 1:05. I am not a finalist. Smells fishy to me.

Well all I know is there must be a lot of RAINMAN CANIDATES out there to be able to finish those puzzles in 5 or 6 minutes.

Anonymous said...

Finished and submitted the puzzle in less than 3 minutes. Not a finalist.
Not pissed about that though. More pissed about the "consolation prize" being a game that only works on PC. "Here's a nice pile of binary code for you that you can't use"

Anonymous said...

It was not the accumulated time it took to finish the puzzle that counted, cause I am a finalist, and some of the puzzles took me ages to finish (had to work in between).

Also, the time that everyone thought they finished isn't necessarily correct....it depends on what time the google server received it. So you might have been finished by say 10:05, but because of heavy traffic (or a slow connection speed), your time-stamp might be 10:30.....not sure if this is what happened, but it is possible.

Anonymous said...

finished every puzzle by 1:20. i realize that doesn't make me a finalist, but i haven't gotten anything. no emails, no consolation prizes, nothing. wtf, google?

Would anyone be intrested in a replacement inner cylinder to enable using all 5 rings for locking?

I've got the stuff to build them, All you'd have to do is swap the end cap.

Anonymous said...

I would....how much would that cost you... or me?

Anonymous said...

Not much, I'm thinking a chunch of aluminum square stock drilled then borred out. I'll blog it somewhere and let everyone know.

Anonymous said...

William, let us know

Anonymous said...

I would be interested in replacement inner cylinder.

Anonymous said...

Me too...

Please email! kewl353@gmail.com!

Anonymous said...

Would someone please tell me how the cryptex was sent. . .First Class? Parcel Post? Also, what date was stamped on the package. I haven't received mine yet and I live in California. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

I received my cryptex in a small white box sent from www.noblecollection.com. It doesn't say how it was sent.. my guess is just regular parcel mail since it only has a stamp on the top with the amount of $4.05.

Anonymous said...

$4.05 is priority mail, I think

Anonymous said...

Thanks for responding to my mailing questions. :D

Anonymous said...

How about this, I'm a few weeks out for a prototype becuase the shop at my work is out of commission. I'll e-mail student here when I have the first prototype completed and what will be available for a limited production run.

Other then that, Feel free to shoot me an e-mail at photinus @ gmail.com

Anonymous said...

Wouldn't the easiest thing to be to weld extra bits of metal onto the inner cylinder. I know nothing about this kind of stuff, so maybe someone who does can speak to this possibility.

Anonymous said...

Anyone receive a cryptex, but no email????

Anonymous said...

Got an email no cryptex

Anonymous said...

You cant really weld to this material. From what I can tell, It's die-cast aluminum with a brass or gold coating of some sort. I'll have more information in the near future and I'll keep you all upto date.
